This article discusses endothelial cells and compares the function of “endothelial cell colony-forming units” (CFU-ECs) and endothelial colonyforming cells (ECFCs) to help identify and further understand the origins of these cells’ activities. Their studies conclude that CFUECs are not endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and should be reevaluated, but that ECFCs may serve as a potential therapy for vascular regeneration.
